The first Covid 19 case was detected in the cow's bazaar kutupalong Rohinga refugee camp in Bangladesh aid agencies warn that without additional resources, there would be a public health catastrophe.
Since the beginning of the covid 19 pandemic international aid organizations have been warning that an outbreak in the world's refugee camp's could have catastrophic consequences.
To prevent such a scenario ,Bangladesh has largely sealed off the cow's bazaar kutupalanog refugee camps, inhabited mostly by the Rohingya people who field from ethnic and religious persecution in neighboring Myanmar since March 2020.
People are allowed to move in and out of the camp only if its strictly necessary.police have set up roadblock and patrolling to enforce the restrictions on public movement.
In recent weeks,NGO organization such as the IRC and CARE Germany have been preparing for an outbreak as best as they could.medical personnel have been training and isolation center have been set up .according to IRC a camp with 1700 beds is planning and several hundred beds are already operational.there is an intensive care unit with 20 ventilation also ready.
Awareness important ,but difficult:
Despite various campaingns staf correspondence sees te lack .org awareness among te camps residents .experts say internet restriction imposed by te goverment to curb te sprad .org rumors and false information have contributed to te problem.
Internet and mobile phone restricted in te camp have led to lack .org sufficient and accurate information about te virus and how to protect one self from te disease.these restrictions also impact te ability .org agencies to respond swiftly in case of a reported case in the camps.
Te rohingya in kutupalong coxsbazzar have already suffered unspeakable trauma.we therefore urge the international community to provide financial support to NGO organizations working in bangladesh.
Thanks to all
